Level and relationship between the quality of life and depression of patients at Intensive Care Unit

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the quality of life and depression of patients hospitalized at Intensive Care Units (ICU). It is a pilot study whose practical part was done as a part of a broader research aimed at discovering the quality of life of ICU patients. The thesis deals with the impact this experience has on their lives. It examines the levels of patients’ quality of life and depression, compares them to those of the general population, and examines the relation between them. The research has proven that there is a statistically significant relationship between the quality of life and depression, and the results have also shown a notable difference in many aspects of life quality between ICU patients and the general population.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa venuje kvalite života a depresii pacientov hospitalizovaných na anesteziologicko-resuscitačnej klinike. Má formu pilotnej štúdie a praktická časť bola realizovaná v rámci širšieho výskumu zameraného na zistenie kvality života u týchto pacientov. Práca sa zaoberá dopadom danej skúsenosti na ich život, skúma úroveň a rozdiely kvality života a depresie oproti bežnej populácii ako aj ich vzájomný vzťah. Na základe výskumu sa v mnohých oblastiach preukázal štatisticky významný vzťah medzi depresiou a kvalitou života a taktiež sa zistil významný rozdiel v hodnotách viacerých oblastí kvality života oproti bežnej populácii.
