The use of flow concept in first aid instruction.

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je prozkoumat vztah mezi flow zažívaným v průběhu výuky první pomoci a pocitem kompetence první pomoc poskytnout. Výzkumu se účastnilo 97 dospělých absolventů kurzů první pomoci (z toho 56 žen), věkový rozsah byl 18-60 let, průměrný věk byl 25 let. Flow bylo měřeno pomocí škály Activity Flow State Scale a dvou dalších (Flow Experiences Scale, Swedish Flow Proneness Questionnaire), jejichž výsledky nebyly pro nízkou vnitřní konzistenci použity pro závěry práce. Byla použita korelační a regresní analýza pro zjištění míry vztahu mezi flow zažívaným v průběhu výuky první pomoci a pocitem kompetence první pomoc poskytnout. Provedeným výzkumem jsme zjistili, že existuje silný vztah mezi zažívaným flow a pocitem kompetence. Také bylo zjištěno, že existuje rozdíl v prožívání flow u absolventů kurzů pořádaných Českým červeným křížem a absolventů kurzů pořádaných Junákem a soukromými organizacemi. Absolventi kurzů Českého červeného kříže dosahovali statisticky významné nižších skórů než absolventi dalších dvou organizací. Nebyly zjištěny žádné rozdíly v prožívání flow v závislosti na pohlaví nebo vzdělání. Byly zjištěny signifikantní rozdíly u absolventů jednotlivých organizací, které kurzy pořádaly. Výsledky této práce umožňují poskytnout pořadatelům kurzů nejen první pomoci vytvářet své programy tak, aby se jejich absolventi cítili co nejvíce kompetentní naučené dovednosti prakticky provádět.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to survey the relation between flow experienced during First Aid training and feeling of competence to provide it. There were 97 First Aid graduates participated in the research, 56 females, 41 males, age ranging 18 - 60, the average age 25. Flow was measured using Activity Flow State Scale and two other scales: Flow Experiences Scale and Swedish Flow Proneness Questionnaire, the later ones not applied for their too low inner consistence. To find out the extent of relation between flow experienced during First Aid instruction and the competence to provide it, Correlation and Regression Analysis were used. Having run the survey, we found out that there is a strong relation between the experienced flow and the feeling of competence. We have also found that there is a significant difference between the experienced Flow level by The Czech Red Cross courses graduates and the ones organized by Czech Scout-Junák organisation and some other private organisations. The Czech Red Cross courses graduates reached statistically lower scores then the graduates of the other organisations. Concerning graduates´ age and their achieved level of education, no differences were found in Flow experiencing. The results of this thesis are supposed to help the organizers of First Aid courses (and not only them) design their course programmes to enable the graduates to feel competent enough to utilize the acquired skills in practical situations.
