Life around the Great Lakes in East Africa (Educational Project for High School)

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vymezení východní Afriky z pohledu fyzické a socioekonomické geografie. Část věnovaná fyzické geografii popisuje geologii, geomorfologii, klima, hydrografii, pedogeografii, biogeografii a ochranu přírody ve východní Africe. Část zaměřená na socioekonomickou geografii předkládá kromě historie a základních charakteristik východoafrických států i základní demografické údaje a ekonomické poměry zájmového regionu. Z výše uvedeného vyplývá, že produktem první kapitoly diplomové práce je ucelený studijní materiál, který je možné použít při výuce na středních školách. Dále diplomová práce předkládá popis a analýzu sedmi vybraných učebnic regionální geografie, zda je v nich zmíněna východní Afrika jako celek. Následně je předložena teorie projektové výuky, její historické kořeny, charakteristika, jednotlivé fáze projektu a jejich popis, typologie projektů dle různých hledisek, a výhody a nevýhody této výukové metody. Diplomovou práci uzavírá kapitola věnovaná samotnému výukovému projektu. Je předložen návrh geografického výukového projektu, včetně jeho časového a organizačního vymezení. Následně je popsána realizace tohoto projektu na vybrané střední škole. Praktickým výstupem diplomové práce je tedy výukový projekt se zaměřením na geografii ověřený ve výuce a vhodný pro další použití v praxi.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the determination of East Africa from the point of view of physical and socio-economic geography. The part dedicated to the physical geography describes the geology, geomorphology, climate, hydrography, pedo-geography, bio-geography and the nature conservation in East Africa. The part focusing on socio-economic geography presents, apart from the history and the basic characteristics of the East-African states, also some basic demographical data and economic conditions of the region of interests. The above stated implies, that the outcomes of the first chapter of the diploma thesis is a complete study material, which is ready to be used for teaching at high schools. The diploma thesis further presents the description and the analysis of seven textbooks of the regional geography chosen, if the East Africa is mentioned as a whole. Consequently, a theory of project teaching, its historical roots, features, particular phases of the project and their description, typology of the project according to various points of view, and the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching method. The diploma thesis is closed with a chapter, dedicated to the educational project itself. A draft of a geographical educational project, including its time and organizational definition is presented. Subsequently, the realization of this project on a selected high school is described. The practical outcome of the diploma thesis is an educational project focused on geography, verified by teaching and suitable for further practical use.
