Seldefence and its Application in Paramedics' Work

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce popisuje problematiku sebeobrany a jejího uplatnění v profesi zdravotnického záchranáře. Cílem je zhodnotit, zda si zdravotničtí záchranáři uvědomují riziko jejich napadení a zda dokáží nebezpečí napadení čelit. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část je zpracována jako souhrn poznatků a odborných prací zabývajících se problematikou sebeobrany. Práce se snaží na problematiku sebeobrany dívat jako na komplexní děj. Tedy nerozebírá pouze určité části konfliktu a nevěnuje se jen verbální sebeobraně, ale spojuje je společně s taktikou sebeobrany do jednoho celku. Doporučení zde uvedená, jsou zaměřena na specifické prostředí a situace, kterým může být vystaven zdravotnický záchranář během výkonu své profese. V praktické části jsou zpracovány rozhovory se zdravotnickými záchranáři, kteří pracují ve výjezdové posádce zdravotnické záchranné služby, kde se s agresivním chováním často setkávají. Z těchto rozhovorů vyplývá, že i když je riziko napadení běžnou součástí této profese a zdravotničtí záchranáři si jej plně uvědomují, neumí na něj správně reagovat. Součástí rozhovorů byl i rozbor konkrétních zkušeností s napadením, Zpětně jsme se snažili zjistit, co mohlo být příčinou toho, že konflikt eskaloval až k fyzickému napadení a jakou zkušenost z takové situace si dotyčný záchranář odnesl pro svojí další praxi. Zajímavé jsou i názory záchranářů, ohledně jejich vzdělávání v této problematice. Je s podivem, jak málo úsilí je věnováno přípravě zdravotnických záchranářů v otázce sebeobrany. Důvodem může být vnímání sebeobrany jen jako verbální deeskalace konfliktu nebo jen zákroku při fyzickém napadení. Přitom člověk, který je kvalitně připravován v sebeobraně kombinuje obě tyto strategie.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis addresses the issue of self-defence and its application in the profession of paramedic. The aim is to assess whether paramedics are aware of the risk of being attacked and whether there is a risk of being attacked. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is processed as a summary of know-ledge and professional work dealing with the issue of self-defence. The work tries to look at the issue of self-defence as a complex. It does not only analyse certain parts of the conflict and does not only deal with verbal self-defence, but combines all together with the tactics of self-defence into one whole. The recommendations given here focus on the specific environment and situations to which a paramedic may be exposed to during the exercise of his profession. In the practical part, there are interviews with pa-ramedics who work as a crew of the ambulance service, where they often encounter aggressive behaviour. These interviews show that although the risk of assault is a common part of the profession and paramedics are fully aware of it, they cannot re-spond to it properly. As part of the interviews and an analysis of specific experiences with the attack, we found out what could have caused the conflict to escalate to a physi-cal attack and as an experience of such a situation, which the Paramedic in question took for his further practice. The opinions of paramedics regarding their education in this area are also interesting. It is surprising how little is devoted to the training of pa-ramedics in the issue of self-defence. The reason may be the perception of self-defence itself. It is often thought only as a tool for verbal de-escalation of the conflict or just an intervention in actual physical attack. However this work finds that a person who is well-trained in self-defence combines both of these strategies often achieving better results in prevention of conflict or physical assault.
