Taxonomy and distribution of European species of the family Thaumaleidae (Diptera)

Abstract:

Tato práce přispívá k poznatkům o evropských zástupcích čeledi Thaumaleidae (Diptera), se zaměřením na českou a slovenskou faunu. V úvodní části jsou shrnuty základní poznatky o systematice, morfologii, biologii a rozšíření v Evropě. Poté je uveden detailní přehled 25 pozorovaných druhů, který mimo jiné posloužil k tvorbě prvního dichotomického klíče samčích hypopygií všech českých a slovenských zástupců. Z 12 druhů byl poprvé získán úsek genu COI a tato data byla spolu s dalšími dostupnými sekvencemi využita k vytvoření předběžného fylogenetického stromu zahrnujícího celkově 30 druhů, naznačujícího mezirodové i mezidruhové vztahy evropských zástupců. Práce také zahrnuje fotografický atlas necelé třetiny evropské fauny, s fotografiemi všech klíčových struktur samčího hypopygia nutných k determinaci. V práci jsou také rozvedeny důvody pro budoucí popis celkem 8 nových druhů z Evropy i území České a Slovenské republiky a podrobně pojednány oblasti, na které by se měl zaměřit budoucí výzkum.

Abstract:

This thesis contributes to the knowledge of European species of the family Thaumaleidae (Diptera), with a focus on the fauna of the Czech and Slovak Republics. Data on their systematics, morphology, biology, and distribution in Europe are summarized in the introductory part of this thesis. A detailed review of 25 studied species is presented in the next part, following by the first dichotomic key to the identification of the Czech and Slovak representatives. For the majority of species, a fragment of the COI gene was obtained and a preliminary phylogenetic tree of the family was constructed. The phylogenetic tree contains a total of 30 species of the family and outlines the interspecific and intraspecific relationships. The first photographic atlas of Central European taxa is presented, containing photographs of all necessary structures of male hypopygia needed for determination. This thesis also includes preliminary descriptions of 8 species new to science from various parts of Europe and outlines areas for future research.
