Negative effects of psychotherapy: ethical failures of psychotherapists

Abstract:

Kvalitativní studie se zabývá negativními účinky psychoterapie v důsledku etických pochybení psychoterapeutů. Výzkumný soubor tvoří 8 participantů, s kterými byly vedeny polostrukturované rozhovory. Výsledkem tématické analýzy je 7 témat: „deteriorace psychického a fyzického stavu“, „neúspěšná terapie“, „změna pohledu a přístupu k terapii, terapeutům a zdravotnictví obecně“, „vzpomínání na terapii a terapeuta a přemýšlení o možných důsledcích pro další klienty“, „vztek na terapeuta“, „pochybnosti o sobě“ a „vina je na straně klienta.“ Výsledky jsou diskutovány v kontextu jiných výzkumů z této oblasti. Zváženy jsou implikace pro praxi a výzkum.

Abstract:

The qualitative study focuses on the topic of the negative effects of psychotherapy due to ethical failures of psychotherapists. The sample consists of 8 participants, with whom semi-structured interviews were conducted. The use of thematic analysis resulted in 7 themes: „deterioration of mental and physical state“, „unsuccessful therapy“, „change in perspective and approach to therapy, therapists and healthcare in general“, „remembering the therapy and the therapist and thinking about the possible consequences for other clients“, „anger at the therapist“, „self-doubt“ and „the fault is on the client.“ The results are discussed in the context of other research in this area. Implications for practice and research are considered.
