Johannes Brahms - characterization and development of musical speech with focus on the piano work

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je přiblížení se osobnosti Johannesa Brahmse a jeho tvůrčí činnosti jak v širším kontextu dobovém, tak i v souvislostech s událostmi a zlomy v jednotlivých etapách jeho života, s nimiž je jeho tvorba úzce spojena. Skrze přiblížení skladatelovy povahy a emocionálních momentů v jeho životě se pokusím nastínit specifika jeho hudebního vyjadřování v jednotlivých tvůrčích etapách, speciálně pak se zaměřením na klavírní tvorbu a její interpretační nároky. Součástí práce je i žánrové rozdělení Brahmsovy klavírní tvorby se stručnou charakteristikou. Samostatná část je pak věnována podrobnějšímu rozboru Ballad op. 10 a Intermezz op. 117 se snahou přiblížit skladby po interpretační a obsahové stránce.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is an outline of the personality of Johannes Brahms and his creative activities in the scope of his time and also in relationship with the events and the crucial points of his life, with which his works is closely connected. I will try to lay out the specific features of his musical expression during various creative periods through an approximate description of the composer's mental state and emotional moments of his life, especially in his piano works and the specific demands for their interpretation. A list of Brahms' compositions created according to genre with a brief characteristic is also a part of the thesis. A separate part deals with a more detailed analysis of the Ballads op. 10 and the Intermezzi op. 117 on the level of interpretation and content.
