Specifics of occupational therapy in vestibular rehabilitation

Abstract:

Vestibulární rehabilitace podporuje kompenzační mechanismy ve vestibulárním systému se zaměřením na zlepšení stability, snížení rizika pádu a redukce závrati. Úlohou ergoterapie ve vestibulární rehabilitaci je zachování maximální soběstačnosti ve každodenních činnostech, které jsou omezeny vlivem problémů spojených s poruchami vestibulárního systému. Cílem práce je zjistit, jaké jsou problémové oblasti aktivit denního života u pacientů s poškozením vestibulárního systému. Z výsledků zkoumání vyplynulo, že nejvíce problémovými aktivitami denního života jsou ty, při kterých je nutné přenášení váhy, ohýbání, natahování a vyžadující změnu polohy - např. oblékání dolní poloviny těla, koupání, chůze v terénu a po schodech, práce na zahradě, jízda dopravními prostředky a nakupování. Cíle práce byly naplněny a z kazuistik a dotazníku jasně vyplynuly problémové aktivity denního života. Bylo by vhodné přenést výsledky zkoumání do praxe při práci s pacienty s podobnými problémy.

Abstract:

Vestibular rehabilitation promotes compensatory mechanisms in the vestibular system with a focus on improving stability, reducing the risk of falls and reducing dizziness. The role of occupational therapy in vestibular rehabilitation is to maintain maximum self-sufficiency in activities of daily living that are limited by problems associated with disorders of the vestibular system. The aim of this study is to identify the problem areas of activities of daily living in patients with vestibular system disorders. The results of the investigation revealed that the most problematic activities of daily living are those that require weight bearing, bending, stretching and require position changes - for example dressing the lower half of the body, bathing, walking in the field and on stairs, gardening, driving vehicles and shopping. The objectives of the work were met and the problem activities of daily living emerged clearly from the case studies and the que-stionnaire. It would be useful to transfer the results of the research into practice when working with patients with similar problems.
