Principles and Procedures for Dashboard Creation and Their Application in Self Service BI

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vizualizaci dat prostřednictvím dashboardů, a zejména pak na principy a postupy jejich tvorby. Hlavním cílem diplomové práce je vytvoření dashboardů pro podporu kampaní v pojišťovně s použitím doporučených principů.Autorka v práci předkládá definici dashboardu a shrnuje jeho vlastnosti. Dále uvádí nejčastěji používané typy dashboardů, představuje jejich rozdílné použití a typické uživatele jednotlivých typů dashboardů. Následně popisuje doporučené principy při tvorbě dashboardů, týkající se procesu tvorby, volby obsahu dashboardu, možnosti vizualizace dat, uspořádání dashboardu a používaného barevného provedení. Za použití doporučených principů a postupů autorka vytváří řešení pro oblast kampaní pro pojišťovnu. Kampaně jsou jedním ze způsobů podpory obchodních aktivit společnosti. Nejprve navrhuje a vytváří Self Service Business Intelligence aplikaci v prostředí Power BI s využitím multidimenzionálního modelování a kalkulací v jazyce DAX. Výstupy SSBI aplikace realizuje formou dashboardů. Tyto dashboardy jsou určeny pro všechny úrovně řízení a jejich cílem je informovat o stavu naplňování očekávaných výsledků kampaní. Takto navržené řešení pro podporu kampaní plně pokrývá uživatelské požadavky a oproti dosavadnímu řešení je více flexibilní, srozumitelné a uživatelsky přívětivé.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on data visualization through dashboards and especially on the principles and procedures for their creation. The main goal of this thesis is to create dashboards for campaign support in an insurance company using the recommended principles.The author defines what dashboard is and summarizes its features. Furthermore, the author also lists the most commonly used types of dashboards, presents their different uses and typical users of each type of dashboard. Subsequently, the author describes the recommended principles for creating dashboards, related to the creation process, the choice of dashboard content, possibilities of data visualization, dashboard arrangement and the color design used.Using the recommended principles and procedures, the author creates a solution for the area of insurance company campaigns. Campaigns are one of the ways to support the company's business. First, the author designs and creates a Self Service Business Intelligence application in Power BI environment using multidimensional modeling and calculations in the DAX language. SSBI application outputs are presented through dashboards. These dashboards are designed for all levels of management and their aim is to inform to which extent are the expected campaign targets met. The campaign support solution designed in this way fully meets user requirements and is more flexible, understandable and user-friendly than the solution currently in place.
