Analysis of the use of thin clients and their deployment in PC classrooms

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu a revitalizaci počítačové infrastruktury v PC učebnách Základní školy Františkovy Lázně. Hlavním cílem je navrhnout a implementovat řešení založené na technologii tenkých klientů, které vyhovuje současným i budoucím potřebám školy, a to jak v didaktickém procesu, tak v administrativních činnostech. Práce dále obsahuje teoretickou rešerši technologií spojených s tenkými klienty, včetně virtualizace, protokolů pro vzdálené připojení a vhodných serverových operačních systémů. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována také kybernetické bezpečnosti školských zařízení. V praktické části práce je provedena podrobná analýza současného stavu technologického vybavení počítačových učeben školy společně s analýzou potřeb školy a na jejím základě je navržena nová konfigurace učeben a infrastruktury. Součástí praktické části je příprava a rekonfigurace počítačové sítě, nastavení serverové infrastruktury a implementace virtualizačních řešení s potřebnými virtuálními stroji. Finální fází je instalace a konfigurace tenkých klientů a jejich nasazení do PC učeben s následným testováním funkčnosti. Na závěr jsou vyčísleny náklady na celé řešení a provedeno jejich porovnání s alternativními řešeními, společně s analýzou úspory elektrick éenergie.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis and revitalization of the computer infrastructure in the PC classrooms of the Františkovy Lázně Primary School. The main objective is to design and implement a solution based on thin client technology that meets the current and future needs of the school, both in the didactic process and in administrative activities. The thesis also includes a theoretical investigation of the technologies associated with thin clients, including virtualization, remote connection protocols and suitable server operating systems. Special attention is also paid to the cybersecurity of school facilities. In the practical part of the thesis, a detailed analysis of the current state of the technological equipment of the school's computer labs is performed, together with an analysis of the school's needs, and based on this analysis, a new configuration of classrooms and infrastructure is proposed. The practical part includes the preparation and reconfiguration of the computer network, the setup of the server infrastructure and the implementation of virtualization solutions with the necessary virtual machines. The final phase is the installation and configuration of thin clients and their deployment in the PC classrooms with subsequent functionality testing. Finally, the cost of the entire solution is quantified and compared with alternative solutions along with an analysis of the power savings.
