Sense of disunion and dispossession as a theme in german literature (on the exampel of the novel Atemschaukel by Herta Müller)

Abstract:

The main theme of this thesis is the analysis of the senses of disunion and dispossession in Herta Müller?s novel Atemschaukel. The sense of disunion in this novel is seen and subsequently analysed from three viewpoints. The major attention is devoted to sense of disunion of the main character, from the Romanian-German suburban society, due to his homosexual orientation. Furthermore, the thesis concentrates on the analysis of senses of disunion and consequently dispossession of the main character from the family because of his deportation to a labour camp in Ukraine. This part of the thesis subsequently concentrates on feelings of home loss and homesickness. The end of the thesis deals with the sense of disunion of the main character after his returning from the labour camp, the influence of experiences and memories of the camp on his later life, and his runaway from Romania to Austria.

Abstract:

Hlavnou témou tejto diplomovej práce je analýza pocitov odcudzenia a vykorenenia v románe Atemschaukel od Herty Müller. Pocit odcudzenia je v tomto diele vnímaný a následne analyzovaný z troch perspektív. Hlavná pozornosť je venovaná pocitu odcudzenia hlavného hrdinu od Rumunsko-nemeckej malomestskej spoločnosti z dôvodu jeho homosexuálnej orientácie. Ďalej sú v tejto práci analyzované pocity odcudzenia a následného vykorenenia hlavného hrdinu od rodiny z dôvodu jeho deportácie do pracovného tábora na Ukrajinu. Následne sa táto časť práce sústreďuje aj na pocity straty domova a túžby po domove. Na koniec sa táto práca zaoberá pocitom odcudzenia hlavného hrdinu po jeho návrate z pracovného tábora, vplyvom zážitkov a spomienok z tábora na jeho ďalší život a jeho útekom z Rumunska do Rakúska.
