Variability of ultraviolet lines of magnetic star HD 37776

Abstract:

Hvězda HD 37776 patří mezi horké, chemicky pekuliární hvězdy a je výjimečná svou komplexní okolohvězdnou magnetosférou. V této bakalářské práci studujeme proměnnost pěti spektrálních čar ve 34 ultrafialových spektrech, naměřených družicí IUE. Zaměřili jsme se na dvě dvojice spektrálních čar, které vznikají ve hvězdném větru, dublety Si IV a C IV, a na čáru C III, pocházející ze skvrn na povrchu hvězdy. Charakteristiky spektrálních čar jsme získali prokladem čar Lorentzovým profilem. Zjistili jsme, že fázová proměnnost Si IV a C IV rezonančních dubletů koreluje s fázovým průběhem podélné složky magnetického pole hvězdy. Tato souvislost platila především pro hloubky čar a radiální rychlosti čar; šířka čar velkou proměnnost neprojevovala. Fázová proměnnost hloubky čáry C III vykazovala stejnou závislost jako fázová světelná křivka naměřená družicí TESS.

Abstract:

The star HD 37776 belongs to the hot, chemically peculiar stars and is unique in its complex circumstellar magnetosphere. In this thesis we study the variability of five spectral lines in 34 ultraviolet spectra measured by the IUE satellite. We focused on two pairs of spectral lines that originate in the stellar wind, the Si IV and C IV doublets, and the C III line, which comes from spots on the stellar surface. We obtained the characteristics of the spectral lines by fitting the lines with the Lorentz profile. We found that the phase variability of Si IV and C IV resonance doublets is correlated with the phase course of the star's longitudinal magnetic field component. This correlation was mainly valid for the line depths and radial velocities; the line width did not show much variability. The phase variability of the C III line depth showed the same dependence as the phase light curve measured by the TESS satellite.
