Moralism and Theory of Documentary Photography

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Moralismus a teorie dokumentární fotografie se zabývá otázkou vztahu morální a estetické kritiky uměleckého díla, konkrétně dokumentární fotografie. Na půdorysu pěti základních variet řešení, radikálních a umírněných podob moralismu a autonomismu, a jistým způsobem výlučného eticismu, dospívá k preferenci pozic umírněného moralismu. V kontextu pole dokumentární fotografie, jež pro dané účely zužuje na příklady humanistického fotodokumentu (Magnum Photos, FSA, česká fotografie čtyřicátých a osmdesátých let), aplikuje kategorie morální kritiky v součinnosti s kategoriemi kritiky estetické a dochází k závěru, že jejich vztah je přímý, tedy že defekty na straně jedné i druhé způsobují, pokud ne přímo selhání, pak změnu způsobu vnímání a interpretace snímku.

Abstract:

Thesis Moralism and theory of documentary photography deals with the relation of aesthetic and moral criticism of art, especially documentary photography. On the basic plan of five varieties of solutions – the radical and moderate forms of moralism and autonomism and exclusive ethicism, holds positions of preference of moderate moralism. In the context of the field of documentary photography, which narrows for its purposes to examples of humanistic photo-document (Magnum Photos, the FSA, Czech photos of forties and eighties), applies the category of moral criticism in conjunction with categories of aesthetic criticism and concludes that their relationship is direct, thus the defects on the one hand, and second cause, if not failure, then change perceptions and interpretations of the image.
