Influence of Pythagoras' Philosophy by his mathematical focus

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce "Ovlivnění Pýthagorovy filosofie jeho matematickým zaměřením" představuje jednu z otázek, které provázejí studium myšlení významného antického filosofa, matematika a hudebního teoretika Pýthagora: Ovlivnilo matematické myšlení jeho filosofický koncept (pokud ano, tedy jakým způsobem) nebo tomu bylo naopak? Ve směru řešení odpovědi na uvedenou otázku postupuje předložený text. Práce přibližuje Pýthagorovo myšlení a jeho nauku z pohledu matematiky a čísel, následně se zaměřuje na jeho matematické pojetí světa, a především definici čísla, která se od našeho dnešního pojetí dosti liší. Poté text přibližuje jeho filosofii, a to na základě tvrzení, že je založena právě na číslech, včetně autorova učení o duši. Část textu neopomíjí ani odkaz Pýthagorův v učení Pýthagorejců. Závěr přibližuje odpověď na centrální otázku vztahu Pýthagora – matematika, a Pýthagora – filosofa.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis "Influence of Pythagoras' Philosophy by his mathematical focus" presents one of the questions that accompany the study of the thinking of the important ancient philosopher, mathematician and music theorist Pythagoras: Did mathematical thinking influence his philosophical concept (if so, in what way) or was it the other way around? The presented text moves in the direction of solving the answer to the mentioned question. The work approaches Pythagoras' thinking and his doctrine from the point of view of mathematics and numbers, then focuses on his mathematical concept of the world, and above all the definition of number, which is quite different from our current concept. Then the text approaches his philosophy, based on the claim that it is based precisely on numbers, including the author's teachings about the soul. Part of the text does not omit the reference to Pythagoras in the teachings of the Pythagoreans. The conclusion describes the answer to the central question of the relationship between Pythagoras – mathematician and Pythagoras – philosopher.
