An authoritative and totalitarian regime: The Second republic - regime authoritative or democracy?

Abstract:

V předkládané diplomové práci se snažím najít odpověď na otázku, zda režim tzv. Druhé republiky byl demokratický či autoritativní. V teoretické části práce vysvětluji pojmy demokracie, autoritativní a totalitní režim. Po nastínění mezinárodní situaci v Evropě mezi světovými válkami, se věnuji demokracii První republiky, jejímu rozboru i politickým stranám té doby. Hlavní část práce je o Druhé republice, je zde popsána situace po odstoupení pohraničních území i návrhy nejen politických stran na řešení vnitropolitické situace. Práce pokračuje vysvětlením toho, jak byla provedena koncentrace stranického spektra resp. jak byl zjednodušen politický život. Dále je zmíněna volba nového prezidenta a nové vlády. Zvláštní kapitola je i věnována zmocňovacímu zákonu a dalším zákonům přijatých v té době, které měly za následek odklon od demokracie. Se zřízením Protektorátu Čechy a Morava končí i má diplomová práce.

Abstract:

In the suggested thesis I try to find an answer to the question whether the regime of the so-called Second Republic was a democratic or an authoritative one. In the theoretical part I clarify such notions as democracy, authoritative and totalitarian regime. After the international situation in Europe between the two World Wars is described, I focus on the democracy of the First Republic, on its analysis and on political parties of that period. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the Second Republic. Here I describe the situation after the abandonment of the border areas and suggestions on how to deal with the intra-political situation from political parties and others. Then I try to explain how the concentration of the political parties’ specter has been accomplished, or how the political life has been simplified. After that, the elections of the new president and the new government are being mentioned. A particular chapter is devoted to the enabling act and other acts, that were passed at that period and which enactment resulted in deflection from democracy. My thesis’ last focus is the establishment of the Bohemia and Moravia Protectorate.
