Impacts of climate change on the economy of farms in the region of Ústí

Abstract:

S projevy klimatické změny se v posledních letech potkáváme například v podobě erozí půdy nebo nadměrným suchem, které mají dopad na různá odvětví lidské činnosti, zejména pak na zemědělství. Lze očekávat, že se projevy změny klimatu budou v následujících letech zesilovat. Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na pozitivní i negativní dopady klimatické změny na zemědělské subjekty. Cílem práce je zhodnocení současných vlivů klimatické změny na hospodaření zemědělských podniků v Ústeckém kraji, z pohledu vnímání představitelů těchto podniků. Prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření a hloubkových rozhovorů mezi zástupci zemědělských podniků sídlících v Ústeckém kraji vyhodnotit připravenost zemědělských podniků na očekávané projevy klimatické změny a pomocí interních dat těchto podniků zkoumat, v jakém rozsahu tyto podniky klimatická změna zasáhla, jak ovlivnila chod podniků a jakým způsobem na ni reagují. Data z dotazníků byla vyhodnocena deskriptivní statistikou a chí kvadrát testem nezávislosti a rozhovory byly vyhodnoceny analýzou obsahu a otevřeným kódováním. V rámci práce byla doporučena nejvhodnější opatření, která by měla pomoci zemědělským podnikům eliminovat nebo zmírnit dopady klimatické změny. Bylo zjištěno, že zemědělci v Ústeckém kraji věří, že klimatická změna probíhá a spíše na ni reagují prostřednictvím adaptačních nebo mitigačních opatřeních, než nereagují. Také bylo zjištěno, že podle zemědělců tohoto kraje je nejhorším projevem klimatické změny sucho. Nejčastější opatření, která zemědělci zavádějí, jsou cílený výběr pěstování odolnějších plodin, zadržování vody v krajině, budování závlah, tůní či mokřadů a snížení utužení půdy například minimalizací přejezdů přes pole. Tato práce může sloužit pro zemědělce z ostatních krajů České republiky pro bližší pochopení klimatické změny a jako inspirace, co v boji proti ní dělat.

Abstract:

In recent years, we have been witnessing the manifestations of climate change, such as soil erosion and excessive drought, which have impacts on various sectors of human activity, especially agriculture. It can be expected that the manifestations of climate change will intensify in the coming years. This bachelor's thesis focuses on both positive and negative impacts of climate change on agricultural entities. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the current effects of climate change on the managament of agricultural enterprises in the Ústí nad Labem Region, from the perspective of the representatives of these businesses. Through a questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews with representatives of agricultural enterprises located in the Ústí nad Labem Region, the readiness of agricultural enterprises for expected manifestations of climate change will be assessed. Additionally, by using internal data from these enterprises, the thesis will examine the extent to which these businesses have been affected by climate change, how it has influenced their operations, and how they are responding to it. The questionnaire data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics and the chi-square test of independence. The interviews will be evaluated through content analysis and open coding. Within the thesis, the most suitable measures will be recommended to help agricultural enterprises eliminate or mitigate the impacts of climate change. It was found that farmers in the Ústí nad Labem Region believe that climate change is occurring and are more likely to respond to it through adaptation or mitigation measures rather than not. It was also found that, according to farmers in this region, the worst manifestation of climate change is drought. The most common measures implemented by farmers include the targeted selection of more resistant crops, water retention in the landscape, the construction of irrigation, ponds, or wetlands, and the reduction of soil compaction, for example, through minimization. This thesis can serve as a resource for farmers from other regions of the Czech Republic to gain a better understanding of climate change and as inspiration for what to do in the fight against it.
