Decomposition of dead wood in mountain temperate forests and it´s impact to pedogenesis

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá sledováním vlivu tlejícího dřeva na půdní charakteristiky a související vývoj půdního profilu. Předmětem výzkumu jsou půdy v Národní přírodní rezervaci Žofínský prales v Novohradských horách, s převažujícím bukem lesním (Fagus sylvatica L.). Srovnávány jsou vzorky odebrané pod tlejícími kmeny a vzorky kontrolní, s převažujícím listovým opadem na povrchu. V půdě pod kmeny buku byl ve srovnání s kontrolou zjištěn signifikantně vyšší obsah uhlíku, vyšší pH, vyšší koncentrace živin, nižší výměnná acidita a většinou nižší obsah kovů Al a Fe. Tlející dřevo nejvíce ovlivnilo horizont A, intenzivnější podzolizace pod kmeny nebyla jednoznačně prokázána.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the monitoring of the impact of decaying wood on the soil characteristics and the related development of the soil profile. The subject of the research is the soils in the Žofínský prales National Nature Reserve in Novohradské mountains, with the predominant European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Samples taken under the decaying stems are compared with the control samples of soils with the predominant leaf layer on the surface. In the soil beneath the beech stems, a significantly higher carbon content, higher pH, higher nutrient concentrations, lower exchange acidity, and mostly lower Al and Fe content were found. Decaying wood most affected the horizon A, more intense podzolization was not detected unambiguously.
