Paris in the french literature of the 19 th century

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is called Paris in the 19th-century French literature and describes how the writers portrayed the capital in their works. The thesis deals with three chosen novels of French authors from the given period, analyzes them and examines the source of their inspiration. The objective of this work is to present the city as it really was in the mentioned period, the historical events that influenced its appearance and to compare it with the capital seen by the chosen French writers. The analysis concerns also the places that occurred in the novels and their real and described appearance, character features of the characters and mentions the novels? reception by the society. Furthermore, the literary styles and the period in which the novels take place are compared and all is supported by the extracts from the novels.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce nese název Paříž ve francouzské literatuře 19. století a popisuje, jak hlavní město zobrazovali spisovatelé ve svých dílech. Zabýváme se třemi vybranými romány francouzských autorů z daného období, které analyzujeme a hledáme zdroj jejich inspirace. Cílem práce je představit město takové, jaké doopravdy bylo, historické události, které ovlivnily jeho vzhled a porovnat jej s městem, jak ho viděli vybraní francouzští spisovatelé. Analyzujeme také hlavní místa, která se v románech objevují, jejich skutečný a popsaný vzhled, charakter postav a zmiňujeme přijetí románů společností. Dále srovnáváme literární styly a dobu, ve které se příběhy odehrávají, a vše dokládáme na příkladech z děl.
