Phylogeography and population structure of green tree python (Morelia viridis)

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je sumarizovat dosud známé informace, týkající se zelených krajt (Morelia viridis). Tento druh se pro svůj atraktivní vzhled v posledních letech dostává čím dál více do povědomí široké veřejnosti. Důležitým atributem krajt zelených je jejich morfologická variabilita v závislosti na lokalitě, z které pochází. V práci je zpracován popis těchto jednotlivých geografických forem. Dále je popsána struktura populace a řada biologických aspektů, které se do ní promítají, jde například o způsob života, sociální systém, demografii nebo změny při ontogenezi. Závěr práce je věnován fylogenetické struktuře, kde se ukázalo, že populace krajt zelených je tvořena dvěma velmi odlišnými genetickými liniemi.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to sum up the pieces of information that are known these days about green tree pythons (Morelia viridis). General public awareness of green tree pythons is increasing due to attractive appearance of this species. Important attribute of the green tree pythons is their morphological variability depending on the locality where they are from. A description of these particular geographic forms is elaborated in this thesis. Next, the structure of the population and many biological aspects e.g. their way of life, social system, demography or changes during the ontogenesis are described. The closing part is dedicated to phylogenetic structure where it turns out, that the population of green tree pythons is made of two very different genetic lines.
