Abstract:

Hlavním cílem diplomové práce Prokletí přírodních zdrojů na příkladu Demokratické republiky Kongo a Botswany je vyhodnotit roli nerostných surovin při rozvoji Demokratické republiky Kongo a Botswany od poslední dekády 20. století do současnosti. V práci budou představena různá pojetí teorie prokletí přírodních zdrojů. Na základě historického kontextu a vybraných politicko-ekonomických ukazatelů bude tato teorie aplikována na Demokratickou republiku Kongo a Botswanu, které do jisté míry tvoří protiklady. Obě státy jsou bohaté na přírodní zdroje, avšak pouze Botswana je dokázala využít k rozvoji. Pro Demokratickou republiku Kongo se její zdroje staly prokletím. V poslední části diplomové práce budou obě země srovnány mezi sebou.

Abstract:

The main goal of the thesis Resource curse on example of the Democratic Republic Congo and Botswana is to evaluate the role of mineral resources in the development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Botswana since the last decade of 20th century to the present. Various concepts of the resource curse theory will be presented in the thesis. Based on historical context and selected political-economic indicators, this theory will be applied to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Botswana, which are to some extent the opposites. Both states are rich in natural resources, but only Botswana has used them to develop. For Democratic Republic of the Congo, its resources have become a curse. In the last part of the thesis both countries will be compared with each other.
