The relationship between parentification and quality of sibling relationship in middle adolescence

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na souvislost parentifikace s kvalitou vztahu mezi sourozenci v období střední adolescence. Cílem bylo ověřit vztah mezi parentifikací a sourozeneckým konfliktem, sourozeneckou vřelostí, rivalitou a důvěrou. Dále byly zjišťovány rozdíly v míře parentifikace v souvislosti s věkem, pořadím narození a rodinným zázemím. Úvodní část práce je zaměřena na zmapování fenoménu parentifikace a na souvislost se sourozeneckými vztahy. Pro tento výzkum byly použity metody Sibling Relationship Questionnaire, Dyadic Trust Scale a za účelem zjištění míry parentifikace byla vytvořena nová dotazníková metoda. Dotazníkového šetření se zúčastnilo 126 respondentů ve věku 15 – 18 let. Vztah mezi parentifikací a sourozeneckým konfliktem, sourozeneckou rivalitou a sourozeneckou důvěrou prokázán nebyl. Byl nalezen vztah mezi parentifikací a vřelostí mezi sourozenci. Dále byl nalezen rozdíl v míře parentifikace mezi dívkami a chlapci a mezi respondenty, kteří pocházejí z úplných a neúplných rodin. Rozdíl v míře parentifikace mezi respondenty žijícími se svým sourozencem ve společné domácnosti a respondenty, kteří se svým sourozencem nežijí, nebyl nalezen. Stejně tak nebyl nalezen rozdíl v míře parentifikace v souvislosti s pořadím narození.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the relationship between parentification and quality of sibling relationship in middle adolescence. The aim of this thesis was to verify the relationship between parentification and sibling conflict, warmth, rivalry and trust. There were also identified differences in the degree of parentification in connection with age, birth order and family background. Introduction of this thesis is focused on mapping the parentification phenomenon and links between parentification and sibling relationships. In the study, there were used following methods: Sibling Relationship Questionnaire, Dyadic Trust Scale and in order to measure parentification a new questionnaire method was created. The group of participants consisted of 126 respondents in age 15 – 18. The results didn’t show links between parentification and sibling conflict, rivalry and trust. The results show links between parentification and sibling warmth. There were significant differences in the parentification between girls and boys. There were also significant differences in the parentification between respondents from complete and incomplete families. There were no significant differences in the parentification between respondents living with their sibling and respondents not living with their sibling. There were also no differences in the parentification in connection with the order of birth.
