Quality of life in patients with tuberculosis

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá kvalitou života pacientů s tuberkulózou. Práce se dělí na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část zahrnuje anatomii a funkci dýchacího systému, seznámení s tuberkulózou, definicí, epidemiologií, etiologií, klinickým obrazem, diagnostikou, léčbou a prognózou. Vysvětlení pojmu kvality života, rozsah kvality života a jak se kvalita života měří. V závěru teoretické části je uvedena rešerše, která porovnává kvalitu života nemocných s tuberkulózou a nemocných s diabetem mellitus. Praktická část je provedena kvalitativní metodou pomocí strukturovaného dotazníku, který je nazýván WHOQOL-BREF u lidí bez tuberkulózy a s tuberkulózou. Věk ani pohlaví nebylo stanoveno. Vyhodnocení dotazníků je zpracováno do tabulek a grafů podle daných domén. Tuberkulóza je infekční onemocnění vyvolané mikroorganismy a může postihnout jakýkoliv orgán. Toto onemocnění má jistě dopad na kvalitu života nemocných jak po stránce psychické, tak i fyzické. Výzkumu na toto téma zatím moc není, proto cílem mé práce bylo zjistit, zda nemocní lidé vnímají svoji kvalitu života jinak než zdraví lidé, nebo zda si svého zdraví a celkově kvality života váží více. Můj výzkum byl zaměřen na lidi bez a s tuberkulózou, kterým jsem rozdala k vyplnění stejný dotazník, obsahující 28 otázek. Průběh výzkumu trval v období prosinec březen. Z jednotlivých otázek jsem zjistila, že lidé s tuberkulózou si svého zdraví a kvality života mnohem více váží, tudíž na mé otázky odpovídali spíše kladně. Špatně svou kvalitu života zhodnotilo pouze 19% dotazovaných s tuberkulózou a 14% zdravých lidí. Špatný dopad na jejich zdraví uvedlo 35% lidí s tuberkulózou a jen o 1% méně zdravých lidí. V osobních vztazích nepovažují nemocní s tuberkulózou žádnou změnu. Na závěr bych zhodnotila, že kvalita života a zdraví je u pacientů s tuberkulózou zhoršena, myslím si, že nemocní lidé si svého zdraví váží mnohem více než lidé zdraví.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the quality of life of patients with tuberculosis. My work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part includes anatomy and function of the respiratory system, introducing the tuberculosis itself and definition, epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of this desease. Furthermore the explanation of the concept of quality of life, its range and how can quality of life be measured. In the end of the theoretical part is presented research, which compares tuberculosis with other illnesses such as diabetes mellitus. The practical part was made with qualitative method using a structured questionnaire, called WHOQOL-BREF, where i was working with people with and without tuberculosis. Neither age nor gender was determined. Evaluation questionnaires are processed into tables and graphs according to the given domain. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by microorganisms and can affect any organ. The disease surely has an impact on quality of life on both the mental and the physical side. They aren´t so many researches on this theme yet, so the aim of my work was to determine whether sick people perceive their quality of life differently than healthy people, or whether their health and overall quality of life means more for them. My research was focused on people with and without tuberculosis, who I distributed to complete the same questionnaire containing 28 questions. The research lasted in the period from December to March. From individual questions, I found out that people with tuberculosis value their health and quality of life more, so they have answered my questions more positively. Only 19% of respondents with tuberculosis evaluated their quality of life poorly and as for the non-tuberculosis respondents, there were only 14%. But 35% of the respondents with TB have seen bad impact on their overall health, which was only 1% higher than the percentage of the respondents without TB. In personal relationships the people with TB don´t see any change. In conclusion, I would say that the quality of life and health of patients with tuberculosis is worse, from people without TB, but not as much as I think that it could be, because people with desease still value their health and life more.
