Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Současná témata v moderní dětské poezii” pojednává o současné anglicky psané dětské poezii. Záměrem autora práce bylo odhalit současná témata, jako jsou: smrt, vražda, vegetariánství, rasismus, environmentální otázky, emigrace, chudoba, týrání a postižení v tvorbě básníků pro děti. Autorka práce předpokládala, že požadavky moderní doby budou odraženy rovněž v dětské poezii a účelem práce bylo odhalit způsob, jakým jsou tato témata přibližována dětem. Práce přibližuje tvorbu několika vybraných amerických a britských autorů dětské poezie (Shel Silverstein, Roger McGough, Spike Milligan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Jack Prelutsky a Langston Hughes). Teoretická část podává stručný chronologický souhrn moderní poezie pro děti, uvádí nejdůležitější díla a předkládá názory akademické veřejnosti na dané téma. Práce je podložena jak primární literaturou, sestávající ze sbírek poezie pro děti, tak literaturou sekundární sestávající z tvorby a výzkumu literárních kritiků a akademické veřejnosti. Sekundární literatura sestává z prací kritiků, jako jsou např. Zena Sutherland, May Hill Arbuthnot, Peter Hunt, Richard Flynn a Morag Stylesová. Analytická část bude pracovat se sbírkami poezie vybraných autorů (Shel Silverstein, Roger McGough, Spike Milligan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Jack Prelutsky a Langston Hughes). Bude zkoumat, jak dalece se tito vybraní autoři dětské poezie zabývají nebo vyhýbají kontroverzním tématům v tvorbě zaměřené na dětského čtenáře. V závěru se autor práce pokusí v krátkosti naznačit možnosti praktického využití moderní dětské poezie v TESL učitelské praxi.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis „Contemporary Issues in Modern Children´s Poetry” is about English written modern children´s poetry. The purpose of the work is to identify contemporary themes such as death, murder, vegetarianism, racism, environmental issues, emigration, poverty, abuse and disabilities in the works of children´s poetry writers. The author of the thesis assumed that modern age rapid changes were also reflected in children´s poetry and the aim of the work was to discover, how these themes are being presented to a child reader. The work presents the writings of few selected American and British modern children´s poetry authors (Shel Silverstein, Roger McGough, Spike Milligan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Jack Prelutsky and Langston Hughes). The theoretical part offers an outline of contemporary widely read modern children´s poetry writers with comments on some more remarkable volumes and the academic and critic opinions. The thesis is based on a careful study of primary literature, consisting of children´s poetry collections, and secondary literature, consisting of the academic and critic works and findings. Secondary literature comprises the following literary critic and academic works: Zena Sutherland, May Hill Arbuthnot, Peter Hunt, Richard Flynn and Morag Styles. The analytical part of the thesis works with children’s poetry collections of selected authors (Shel Silverstein, Roger McGough, Spike Milligan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Jack Prelutsky and Langston Hughes). The analysis will ascertain how are contemporary themes approached by the selected authors and presented to a child reader. Last part of the thesis will very briefly speak about possible use of modern children´s poetry in TESL classes.
