This diploma thesis deals with the philosophical origins of American republicanism. The main intellectual sources are Adams' defense of American republicanism against critique of the French economist Turgot; a great debate about the nature of human rights between Thomas Paine and Edmund Burke and finally the period of Founding Fathers, in particular focus on Madison, and their distancing from the definition …more
