Abstract:

This thesis aims to analyze the phenomenon of "American cult horror films", i.e. underground movies that due to their transgressive, controversial and taboo subject matter got shunned by the mainstream, but managed to attain a passionate cult following. The goal of this thesis is to shed light on how these obscure and low budget movies managed to attract such a dedicated fanbase, seep into the mainstream and stay relevant for years to come. It additionally explores the unique and strange cinematic nature of these movies as well as their creators. This thesis is written in English.

Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá fenomén "amerických kultovních filmů", neboli undergroundových snímků, které díky jejich transgresivní, kontroverzní nebo tabu tématice byly opovržené mainstreamovým publikem, ale i přesto si dokázaly získat zástupy vášnivých obdivovatelů. Cílem této práce je objasnit, jak si tyto obskurní a nízkorozpočtové filmy získaly takto silnou základnu fanoušků, čím ovlivnily mainstream a jak dokázaly zůstat relevantními po dlouhá léta. Dále tato práce zkoumá jedinečný a zvláštní charakter těchto filmů i jejich tvůrců. Tato práce je psaná v angličtině.
