Complex restoration of the old print damaged by fire

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce je komplexní restaurování čtvrtého dílu nizozemského starého tisku P. Virgilii Maronis Opera poškozeného ohněm. Místem uložení tohoto tisku je Moravská zemská knihovna v Brně. Celý objekt se dochoval v alarmujícím stavu. Manipulace s knihou nebyla možná bez dalšího poškozování a úbytku nejkřehčích míst, tudíž byl restaurátorský zásah nevyhnutelný. Oheň způsobil úbytek materiálu a zkřehnutí dochovaných okrajů knižních desek i knižního bloku. Práce obsahuje kompletní restaurátorskou dokumentaci rozšířenou o bližší informace o tisku a rešerši metod restaurování ohněm poškozených knih a papírových dokumentů. Restaurátorská dokumentace obsahuje identifikaci, typologický popis knižní vazby a knižního bloku, typografický popis a popis grafické výzdoby knihy. Následuje popis poškození a podrobný popis postupu restaurování, který zahrnuje zkoušky jednotlivých metod mokrého čištění a doplňování ztrát papírové podložky. Významnou součástí práce je Textová, Grafická a Obrazová příloha.

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor thesis is the complex restoration of the fourth part of the Dutch old print P. Virgilii Maronis Opera damaged by fire. The place of storage of this print is the Moravian library in Brno. The whole object has come down in alarming state. Manipulation with the book is not possible without any additional damage and loss of the most fragile parts and therefore is the restoration intervention inevitable. The fire caused loss of material and made the extant margins of boards and the text-block more fragile. The work contains the complete restoration documentation extended by detailed information about the print and the recherche of the methods of restoration of books and paper documents damaged by fire. The restoration documentation contains identification, typological description, typography description and description of the graphic decoration of the book. Ensue description of its damages and detailed description of the restoration process, which includes tests individual methods of aqueous treatment and refilling losses of the paper pad. Significant part of this work is Text, Graphic and Pictorial attachment.
