Transformations of motherhood in the media

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá mateřstvím a jeho proměnami v médiích. Základním cílem je zmapování mediálních prezentací mateřství v období posledních šedesát let, a zjištění, jaké aspekty související s mateřstvím a rodičovstvím přešly proměnami a ověření předpokladu, že mediální prezentace podporuje zavedené genderové stereotypy. Dílčím cílem je zjistit, jaké představy o mateřství mají matky současné generace. Součástí bakalářské práce jsou teoretické poznatky v oblasti mateřství. Zabývá se mateřstvím jako takovým, jeho historií, kultem mateřství, problematikou otcovství a bezdětnosti, pojmem gender a s tím souvisejícími genderovými roli v domácnosti a v mateřství. Také se zabývá médii a jejich vlivem na společnost i na rodinu a problematikou gender ve spojitosti s médii. Praktická část má dvě části. První část probíhá kvantitativně. Data byla získávána pomocí dotazníků. Výsledky jsou zpracovávány především graficky, dle jednotlivých částí dotazníku. Druhá část probíhá sběrem informací z časopisů v posledních 60. letech, kde jsou pak tyto data slovně vyhodnocovány.

Abstract:

Bachelor work deals with motherhood and its changes in media. The basic task is to map media presentation of motherhood in period of the past 60 years, to find out what aspects of motherhood and parenthood came through the changes, and to verify the assumption that media presentation supports established gender stereotypes. The partial task is to learn what conceptions of motherhood have mothers of present generation. One part of the bachelor work includes theoretical knowledge of motherhood. It deals with motherhood itself, its history, the cult of motherhood, questions of fatherhood and childlessness, perception of gender and with that related gender roles in household and in motherhood. It also deals with media and its influence on society and family and questions regarding gender in connection with media. The practical section contains two parts. The first part is done quantitatively. Data were obtained by questionnaires. Results are processed mostly graphically in accordance with each particular part of questionnaires. The second part is done by collection of information from magazines issued during the last 60 years. Date is consequently verbally analyzed.
