Depictions of Antinoos in Roman artistic craft: contexts, dating, cultural and historical interpretation

Anotácia:

Tato práce se zabývá fenoménem vyobrazení Antinoa v uměleckém řemeslu. Shrnuje údaje, které jsou o Antinoově životě a smrti sepsány v antických pramenech a s těmito informacemi pracuje pomocí nástrojů sociálních věd. Taktéž je zde pozornost věnována náboženskému synkretismu. Součástí práce je výběrový katalog, obsahující položky drobného umění, na kterých byl Antinoos vyobrazen. Tyto artefakty jsou v textu dále podrobeny analýze a objevuje se zde shrnutí problematiky motivace majitelů předmětů k jejich pořízení. Práce se zabývá kulturně historickým kontextem a shrnuje teorie, které vysvětlují rozsáhlost Antinoova kultu a jeho výskyt na předmětech drobného umění. Autorka v práci přináší nový přístup, vysvětlující rozšíření Antinoova kultu a přeneseně také jeho výskytu v uměleckém řemesle.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of the depiction of Antinoos in artistic craft, summarizes the data written about Antinoos life and death in ancient sources and works with this information using the tools of the social sciences. There is also attention to religious syncretism. The work includes a selection catalogue containing items of artistic crafts on which Antinoos was depicted. These artefacts are further analysed in the text and a summary of the issues surrounding the motivations of the owners of the objects to acquire them appears. The thesis examines the cultural and historical context and summarizes the theories that explain the extent of the cult of Antinoos and its appearance on small art objects. In this thesis, the author presents a new approach to explain the prevalence of the cult of Antinoos and, figuratively, his appereance in fine crafts.
