Coping Strategies and their Measurement in Relation to Personality Characteristics

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá popisem způsobů, jakými lidé s určitými osobnostními charakteristikami zvládají stresové situace. Téma je zaměřeno na dvě oblasti - rozkrytí souvislostí mezi výběrem určitých strategií zvládání a osobnostními charakteristikami zkoumaných jedinců. Druhou oblastí je pak zjištění souvislostí mezi výběrem copingové strategie a pohlavím a mezi osobnostními charakteristikami a pohlavím. Práce je rozčleněna do dvou základních celků. Teoretická část je zaměřena na vymezení stresu, stresorů a stresových situací a dále pak na problematiku odolnosti vůči stresu a volbu strategií zvládání zátěžových situací. Na tyto okruhy navazují charakteristiky osobnosti, ze kterých lze usuzovat na volby daných strategií. Ve výzkumné části práce je zdůvodněn výběr kvantitativní strategie výzkumu, popis techniky sběru dat včetně objasnění použitých dotazníků SVF 78 a inventáře NEO-FFI. Součástí je rozbor a interpretace výstupů z dotazníkového výzkumu provedeného se studenty a jedinci běžné populace. Na základě výzkumných zjištění jsou závěrem zodpovězeny hlavní výzkumné otázky.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis deals with the description of the process, how different people with different personal characterictis face stress situations. Topis is focused on two parts – first opens connections between strategy choices in term of coping with stress and personal characteristic of individuals examined. Second part deals with coping strategy in connection with sex, or personal characterictics and sex. Thesis is divided into two basic sections. Theroretical part describes stress as factor, stress activators and situations. Furthermore stress imunity and coping stategy situations are presented. Those topics are followed by personal characteristics, where strategy choice could be found. In practical part techniques of data collection is described together with explanation of questionnaires SVF 78 and NEO-FFI used. This part also consist of results coming out from the questionnaires practised on students and afterwards comparation with general population is proceeded. Based on results main research questions are answered.
