Vaccination in the European Union and its possible health risks: Refusal of vaccination against COVID-19 in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá otázkou vakcinace proti viru SARS-CoV-2, který způsobuje onemocnění COVID-19. Očkování je účinnou možností prevence proti COVID-19 a jednou z cest k ukončení globální pandemie způsobené onemocněním pocházejícím z Číny z provincie Wu-chan. Tato práce analyzuje vývoj vakcín, jejich účinnost a možná zdravotní rizika. Rovněž zkoumá přístupy vlády České republiky a vlád sousedních států (Slovenska, Rakouska, Německa a Polska) k realizaci vakcinační kampaně. V návaznosti na to je srovnán stav proočkovanosti těchto vybraných zemí Evropské unie. Pandemie a otázka očkování díky stále rychlejšímu toku a sdílení informací v dnešním globalizovaném světě rozdělily společnost na dva tábory. Je proto rovněž provedena analýza o původu dezinformací týkajících se vakcín proti onemocnění COVID-19. Bakalářská práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Metodologie teoretické části využívá literární rešerše, v praktické části jsou prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření zkoumány příčiny skepse vůči vakcinaci proti COVID-19 v České republice. Výsledky prezentují postoj k očkování proti COVID-19 a jsou analyzovány v souvislosti s dezinformacemi, které ohledně vakcinace nejčastěji kolují ve společnosti.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 Vaccination is an effective option for prevention against COVID-19 and one of the ways to end the global pandemic caused by the Wu-Han disease. This work analyses the development of vaccines, their effectiveness and possible health risks. It examines the approaches of the government of the Czech Republic and the governments of neighbouring countries (Slovakia, Austria, Germany, and Poland) to the implementation of the vaccination campaign. Following this, the state of vaccination coverage of these selected countries of the European Union is compared. The pandemic and the issue of vaccination have divided the society into two camps thanks to the increasingly rapid flow and sharing of information in today´s globalized world. In this final thesis, therefore, the chapter is also devoted to the analysis and origin of disinformation regarding COVID-19 vaccines and their refutation. The bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The methodology of the theoretical part uses analyses of secondary data from the literature, in the practical part the causes of scepticism towards vaccination against COVID-19 in the Czech Republic are examined through a questionnaire survey. The results present the attitude towards vaccination against COVID-19 and are analysed in the context of misinformation that most often circulates in society regarding vaccination.
