Religiosity of slovak elite in .týždeň magazine

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is to call into question the universality of media routines, as elaborated in the theory of media routines. This target goes out of the desire to understand how media routines occur, the consequences flowing from them, and gain new knowledge about the various influences on news production. Using method of Grounded theory transcripts of semi-structured interviews with Christian editors of Slovak .týždeň magazine were analyzed in an effort to find situations in which these routines vary or cease to apply. The thesis seeks to refute their universal validity using religiousness of journalists. It focuses on the possibility that religious (in this case Christian) life of journalist may affect not only the result of journalist’s work, but also his working process. Topic of revoke of Trnava Archbishop Róbert Bezák has become the largest religion theme in the Slovak media landscape of recent years. Editors with whom interviews were made worked at this topic and at more of them there has been identified violation of their working routines. Editors were placed in Schmalzbauer’s categories of ways how Christian journalists cope with the requirement of journalistic objectivity and their own religious beliefs. Editors who have been identified violations of their working routines at used consistently the way "rhetoric of objectivity and separation". Organization of work in .týždeň magazine has been described and characterized in three categories. "We are few", "Variety grew with conflicts" and "Freedom is absolute here". These are the three basic conditions identified, which gave the magazine within the organization of .týždeň magazine space for identified violations of routines.

Abstract:

Témou tejto práce je spochybniť univerzálnosť mediálnych rutín, tak ako sú rozpracované v teórii mediálnych rutín. Tento cieľ plynie zo snahy pochopiť ako mediálne rutiny vznikajú, aké dôsledky z nich plynú, a získať nové poznatky o rôznych vplyvoch na produkciu spravodajstva. Metódou zakotvenej teórie boli analyzované prepisy pološtrukturovaných rozhovorov s kresťanskými redaktormi slovenského týždenníka .týždeň v snahe nájsť situácie, v ktorých tieto rutiny rôznia, či prestávajú platiť. Práca sa snaží vyvrátiť ich univerzálnu platnosť pomocou náboženského vyznania žurnalistov. Zameriava sa na možnosť, že náboženská (v tomto prípade kresťanská) rovina života redaktora môže mať vplyv nielen na samotný výsledok práce žurnalistu, ale aj na jeho pracovný proces. Téma odvolania trnavského arcibiskupa Róberta Bezáka sa stala najväčšou náboženskou témou v slovenskom mediálnom priestore posledných rokov. Redaktori s ktorými boli urobené rozhovory na tejto téme pracovali a u viacerých bolo identifikované porušenie ich pracovných rutín. Redaktori boli zaradení do Schmalzbauerových kategórií spôsobov, ako sa veriaci kresťanský redaktori vyrovnávajú s požiadavkou žurnalistickej objektivity a vlastným náboženským presvedčením. Redaktori, u ktorých bolo identifikované porušenie ich pracovanej rutiny používali zhodne spôsob „rétoriky objektivity a oddelenia“. Organizácia práce týždenníka .týždeň bola popísaná a charakterizovaná v troch kategóriách. „Je nás málo“, „Pestrosť rástla s konfliktami“ a „Sloboda je u nás absolútna.“ Tieto sú tri základné identifikované podmienky, ktoré dali v rámci organizácie časopisu .týždeň priestor na vyššie identifikované porušovanie rutín.
