A Life with Buckbeaks, Kreachers and Extendable Ears: On the Translation of Names and Neologisms in Harry Potter Series
Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals with translation. It has several aims; first of all, it should thoroughly inform of the system of naming in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter books and then describe the origin and functions of selected names. The main aim of the thesis is to analyse the translational procedures that have been used in the translation of Harry Potter from English to Czech.
Abstract:
Tato diplomová práce, jež pojednává o překladu, má několik cílů. V prvé řadě se snaží důkladně seznámit se systémem pojmenovávání v díle J. K. Rowlingové Harry Potter a následně popsat původ a funkci vybraných jmen. Hlavním a nejdůležitějším cílem pak je rozebrat překladatelské postupy, které byly využity při převodu díla z angličtiny do češtiny.
