Místo je, vedle času, univerzální kategorií, která se objevuje ve většině modelů světa. Z její univerzální povahy vyplývá i její lingvistický aspekt - kategorii místa najdeme prakticky ve všech jazycích, které tuto kategorii mohou vyjadřovat různými prostředky.
