Abstract:

V. od Thomase Pynchona/Thomas Pynchonovo V. zahrnuje evokativní příběh/příběh vzbuzující vzpomínky, které se především týkají nekolika překáže, kterým lidstvo čelilo od 19. století doposud. Tyto problémy jsou zvýrazněny epickým pátráním po ženě, jejíž jméno začíná na písmeno 'V,' které hlavní postava, známá pod jménem 'Stencil'/'Šablona' najde v diáři po jeho zesnulém otci. Tento rozbor se zaměřuje na ustanovení způsobů, kterými se Thomas Pynchonovo V. vztahuje k reálným situacím. Tato práce se také snaží zjistit jak je tento příběh konstruován kolem písmena 'V.,' jeho možné literární techniky použité ke zrealizování tohoto cíle a k celkovému významu této novely jako celku. Většina překážek, hlavně těch, se kterými se setká Šablona a jiné postavy, mají přímou souvislost se současnými situacemi z reálného života. Použití různých psacích metod, včetně využítí entropie pomáhá přímé souvislosti mezi obsahem příběhu a písmenem 'V.' Tudíž, Pynchon použil V., ne nutně aby představovalo ženu, ale aby naznačovalo četné případy posedlostí/obsesí, se kterými se lidé stýkají ve svých příslušných snahách o sebeaktualizaci a jiné touhy. Autor použil V. k vyjádření svých obav vztahujících se k úrovni neřestí v dnešní společnosti, a také k odklonění od nich, aby se mohl vyvarovat možné apokalypsy, ačkoli připadá spíše jako znepokojující obavy než realita.

Abstract:

Thomas Pynchon's V. encompasses an evocative story that mainly involves several challenges that have been faced by the society since 19th century onward. These problems are highlighted by an epic search for a woman whose name starts with the letter ‘V’ that the main character known as ‘Stencil’ finds in his late father’s diary. This study focuses on establishing ways by the means of which Thomas Pynchon's V. relates to real-life situations. The work also seeks to ascertain how the story has been structured around letter ‘V’, possible writing techniques used to help realize this objective, and the general overall meaning of the novel as a whole. Most of the challenges, especially those encountered by Stencil and other characters have a direct relationship to contemporary real-life situations. The application of various writing structures including the use of entropy has helped give a direct linkage between the story’s contents and the letter V. Therefore, Pynchon has used V. not necessarily to represent a woman but to denote numerous cases of obsessions that people face in their respective bids to realize self-actualization and other desires. The author has used V. to voice his apprehension concerning the level of vices in the society and also the need to change away from them so that he can avoid a possible apocalypse, though, which seems more of apprehensive anxiety than reality.
