Pervasiveness, mindfulness and authorial reflexivity in the rhetoric of the documentary film Planet Czechia

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o dokumentárním filmu Planeta Česko (2017) od Mariána Poláka a analyzuje jeho rétorické strategie za pomoci kterých přesvědčuje diváky o průbojnosti přírody. Dále rozebírá přizpůsobování výklad mladším divákům, a jakým způsobem je budována Polákova autenticita jako tvůrce. Práce se soustředí na argumentaci přirozené obnovy jako řešení ekologických problémů, apel filmu a paratextů na všímavost a sleduje sebereflexivitu tvůrce spojenou s verbalizovanými pochybami ohledně sebe i projektu a protínání použitých postupů s postupy ve filmech o filmu.

Abstract:

The thesis discusses the documentary film Planet Czechia (2017) directed by Marián Polák and it explores the rhetorical strategies filmmakers use to convince viewers of the pervasiveness of nature. It also analyses how the narrative is adapted to a younger audience, and how Polák's authenticity as a filmmaker is constructed. The thesis focuses on the argument for natural regeneration as a solution to ecological problems, and the appeal to mindfulness in film and paratexts. It also traces the self-reflexivity of the filmmaker, coupled with verbalized doubts about himself and the film, and the similarity of used methods with those in making of documentaries.
