Superfluous man in the world literature of 20th and 21st centuries

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se soustředí na zmapování výskytu „zbytečného člověka“ ve světové literatuře 20. a 21. století, přičemž zachycuje jeho proměnu od jeho předchůdce v ruské literatuře 19. století. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na vymezení typických charakteristik „zbytečného člověka“ na základě textů od Dobroljbova, Bělinského, Chances a Pattersona, ale také na základě samotných textů, ve kterých se jednotliví hrdinové objevují. Součástí je také naše vlastní interpretace „zbytečného člověka“ v kontextu eixstenciální filosofie, protože jej do velké míry považujeme právě za existencialistu. V praktické části probíhá analýza vybraných literární děl světové literatury z 20. a 21. století, ve kterých předpokládáme, že je zde „zbytečný člověk“ přítomen. K určení, zda tomu tak opravdu je, používáme specifikace zvolené v teoretické části práce. V samotném závěru pak dochází k syntéze získaných poznatků.

Abstract:

In this Master’s thesis we focuse on the „Superfluous man“ and his presence in the world literature of the 20th and 21st centuries, also try to define how this literary archetype has changed from its predecessor in Russian literature of the 19th century. The theoretical part focuses on defining typical characteristics of the „Superfluous man“ based on texts by Dobroljubov, Bělinskij, Chances and Patterson, but we also use texts where is the „Superfluous man“ originally present. Part of this thesis is also our own interpretation of the „Supefluous man“ in the context of existential philosophy, because we consider him as an existentialist. In the practical part we analyze selected text of the world literature of the 20th and 21st centuries in which we assume presence of the „Supefluous man“. To determine if this true we use specification chosen in the theoretical part of the thesis. In the end synthesis of the aquired knowledge is achieved.
