Attitudes of Contemporary Catholics Towards Islam

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na zkoumání pohledu současných katolíků na náboženství islám a postoje k němu. Cílem práce je především zjistit, zda tyto postoje korespondují s oficiálními postoji katolické církve a dále se zaměřuje na to, jaké různé faktory mohou postoje dnešních katolíků ovlivňovat. Zvolené téma jsem zkoumala pomocí kvantitativního výzkumu. Vytvořila jsem dotazník, který obsahuje jedenáct otázek a ten jsem následně rozdala věřícím ve dvou farnostech, v Pardubicích a v Králíkách. Dotazníky jsem poté vyhodnotila a pomocí přehledných grafů zanesla do práce. Pro obě farnosti jsem vytvářela grafy zvlášť a ty pak vzájemně porovnávala, abych zjistila, zda se nějakým způsobem liší výsledky z většího a menšího města. Úspěšnost návratnosti dotazníků byla v obou městech více než 50%. V obou městech byly odpovědi respondentů velmi podobné. Provedeným výzkumem jsem zjistila, že postoje katolíků jsou velmi ovlivněny mediálními zprávami, a že jejich názory jsou plné předsudků. Hlavním zjištěním je, že postoje dnešních katolíků jsou dost odlišné od oficiálních postojů katolické církve. Katolická církev oficiálně zaujímá k islámu otevřený postoj, ovšem v navrácených dotaznících jsem se setkala se spíše negativními názory na tento náboženský systém.

Abstract:

This bachelor´s thesis is focused on exploring the perspective of contemporary Catholics to Islam religion and attitudes towards this. The aim of the work is to determine whether these attitudes correspond with the official attitudes of the Catholic Church, and also focuses on how different factors can influence the attitudes of contemporary Catholics.The chosen topic was examined by quantitative research. I created a questionnaire, which includes eleven issues and that I subsequently distributed to the faithful in two parishes, in Pardubice and in Králíky. I then evaluated the questionnaires and using transparent graphs entered in the work. For both parishes I created graphs separately and then together they compared me to see if they somehow different results from the larger and smaller cities.Success rate of return of the questionnaires was in both cities more than 50%. In both cities, the respondents' answers were very similar. Carried out the research, I found that Catholics attitudes are highly influenced by media messages and their opinions are full of prejudices. The main finding is that the attitudes of Catholics today are quite different from the official position of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church officially adopts an open attitude to Islam, but the returned questionnaires met with rather negative attitude towards this religious system.
