Changes to carbon sequestration in above-ground biomass in forest reservation Greenfields, Nicaragua

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo vyhodnotit změny v množství vázaného uhlíku v soukromé rezervaci Greenfields nacházející se v tropickém deštném lese v Nikaragui. Byly provedeny dvě lesní inventarizace (2015 a 2022) a ze získaných dat poté vypočítána biomasa a množství sekvestrovaného uhlíku na zalesněné ploše rezervace Greenfields. Data byla následně porovnána s výsledky ostatních podobně zaměřených prací v oblasti, uvedena do kontextu v rámci biologické sukcese a na závěr byl navrhnut systém financování rezervace pomocí plateb z obchodu s uhlíkem.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the amount of carbon sequestered in the private reserve Greenfields, located in a tropical rainforest in Nicaragua. Two forest inventories were carried out (in 2015 and 2022), and from the obtained data, the biomass and the amount of sequestered carbon in the forested area of the Greenfields reserve were calculated. The data was then compared with the results of other similarly focused studies in the area, contextualized within biological succession, and finally, a financing system for the reserve was proposed through carbon trading payments.
