Abstract:

Práce stylizovaná a strukturovaná jako jeden díl americké večerní talk show (late night) se zabyvá historií tohoto žánru, a to především ve světle nedávného posunu formátu od nekonfliktní zábavy ke sžíravému politickému komentáři a politické satiře. Z perspektivy éry Donalda Trumpa se text nejprve obrací do minulosti k samotnym počátkům žánru, kde se pokouší nalézt tajemství jeho úspěchu stejně jako původní roli politického humoru v pořadech tohoto typu. Práce pokračuje popisem vyrazné evoluce žánru v počátku nového milénia, spočívající v podvratnosti a sebeuvědomělosti. Nakonec text obrací pozornost k současné revoluci v podobě názorově často jednostranného a nekompromisního politického komentáře, ktery dnes žánr doslova prostoupil. Formou fiktivních rozhovorů (složenych z citátů i fabulací) se třemi vyznamnymi moderátory se text pokouší zodpovědět, jak k tomuto posunu došlo, jak tento posun zapadá do původní premisy formátu a jaké mohou byt jeho sociologické dopady.

Abstract:

Thesis is stylized and structured as a typical episode of an American late night talk show. It focuses on the genre's history, especially with regard to its current shift towards political commentary and political satire. From the perspective of the Trump era, the text looks back at the genre's beginnings, trying to define the foundations of its success along with the original role of the political commentary in this types of shows. Thesis continues by describing an important, turn of the millennium, evolution which incorporated subversion and self-awareness into the format. Eventually, the text focuses on the current revolution of an uncompromising and often partisan political commentary which has recently taken over the genre. By means of fictional interviews (comprised of both authentic quotes and fabrications) with three eminent late night hosts, the theses tries to answer the questions of how did this shift come about, how does it fit into the original premise of the format and what sociological implications it might have.
