Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na vztahy v dramatu Williama Shakespeara King Lear a zejména na rodinné problémy ve hře. Jejím cílem je podrobně analyzovat chování hlavních postav v souvislosti očekáváními vyplývajícími z postavení v rámci rodiny a zohlednit faktory ovlivňující konkrétní rodinné záležitosti. V první část práce je stručně zmapována doba a okolnosti vzniku hry, sumarizován děj a představeny hlavní postavy. Dále je rozvedeno téma patriarchálního modelu rodiny, rozdělení mužských a ženských rolí v Alžbětínské době a způsobu, jakým jsou tyto stereotypy ve hře nabourány. Následující část se zaměřuje na rodičovské role ve hře a tudíž je podrobně zkoumáno chování a motivace Leara a jeho a Gloucesterovo selhání v roli rodiče. Je rozveden motiv chybějící matky ve hře a jeho možný dopad na děj. Další část je věnována potomkům a zkoumá motivaci činů Cordelie, Edgara a Edmunda. Také přináší téma nevděku dětí spojeného především s postavami Goneril a Regan. Motiv boje o moc a rozepří mezi jednotlivými členy rodin je představen v další části, která předchází kapitole rozvíjející téma očekávání a odlišného vnímání probíhajících událostí jednotlivými postavami.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on relationships in William Shakespeare’s tragedy King Lear and specifically family issues main in the play. Its aim is to explore behaviour of main characters on the grounds of expectations arising from their status within the family and to survey the factors that cause and influence particular family problems. The first part of the thesis briefly introduces the period and the context of its formation together with its plot and main characters. Further topic of Patriarchal families, gender roles in Elizabethan Era and subverted stereotypes are introduced. Subsequent part is aimed on parental roles in the play; therefore Lear himself, his performance and motives are analysed in detail and his and Gloucester’s failures in treating their children are explored. The motif of missing mother and its possible reasons and impacts is raised. Examination of children’s role in the play follows and offers insight into Cordelia, Edgar and Edmund’s motivation. Furthermore it brings the subject of filial ingratitude connected especially with Gonerill and Regan. Follow-up chapter concerns power struggle and inner quarrels within the families. Expectations and characters´ different perception of events occurring in the play is discussed and analysed in detail.
