Orthodox Fasting Meals in Monastic Typica Written between the 8th and the 14th Century

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje postům v Byzantských klášterech a je rozdělena na dvě části. V první části se práce se věnuje porovnání typik z 8. až 14. století z hlediska dietetických norem v případě vybraných postních období během kalendářního roku. Práce se zaměřuje na to, zda je možné vysledovat a zjistit konkrétní vlivy, které mohly ovlivňovat dietetické normy a případně jakým způsobem. Výchozím podkladem pro vyhotovení první části této práce byl mezinárodní projekt Dumbarton Oaks z roku 2001, který se zaměřuje na překlady křesťanských typik ze 7. až 15. století. V druhé části se tato bakalářská práce věnuje možnému vlivu postů na fyzické a psychické vnímání mnichů. Jestliže je možné zjistit, že skladba a množství potravin včetně individuální spirituality mnichů mohly ovlivnit vnímání postů u mnichů v klášterech 8. až 14. století.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with fasts in Byzantine monasteries and is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the comparison of typicons from the 8th to the 14th century in terms of dietary standards in the case of selected fasting periods during the calendar year. The work focuses on whether it is possible to trace and identify specific influences that may have affected dietary standards and in what way. The international project Dumbarton Oaks from 2001 which focuses on translations of Christian typicons from the 7th to 15th centuries is a fundamental source for making the first part of this thesis. In the second part, this bachelor thesis deals with the possible influence of fasts on the physical and mental perception of monks. If it is possible to find out that the composition and quantity of food, including the individual spirituality of monks, may have influenced the perception of fasts by monks in monasteries of the 14th to 14th centuries.
