Woman?s awareness of prevention, benefits and disadvantages of episiotomy

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce shrnuje poznatky o epiziotomii. V teoretické části je popsána anatomie perinea a chirurgický výkon epiziotomie. Uvádím valence epiziotomie v porodnicích ČR a legislativu vztahující se k epiziotomii. Popisuji hojení a ošetřovatelskou péči o hráz se suturou epiziotomie. Závěrečná část práce patří metodám prevence epiziotomie. V praktické části zkoumám, zda jsou ženy dostatečně informovány o epiziotomii, zda jsou v těhotenství a během porodu aplikovány nějaké metody prevence epiziotomie a zda tyto metody eliminují potřebu nástřihu v praxi. Zajímá mě, zda mají ženy strach z epiziotomie a případných komplikací a jak by řešily přetrvávající dyskomfort v oblasti perinea. U žen s osobní zkušeností epiziotomie zkoumám výskyt komplikací epiziotomie. Z rozboru dat bylo zjištěno, že techniky, které mohou napomoci vyhnout se poranění hráze při porodu, nejsou hojně využívány.

Abstract:

This bachelor?s thesis summarizes the current state of knowledge of episiotomy. The theoretical part of the thesis describes perineum anatomy and what the episiotomy actually entails from the surgical viewpoint. I provide the prevalence of episiotomy in Czech maternity hospitals and the legislation regulating the use of episiotomy. I describe the healing process and the nursing care procedures used to heal the sutured closed perineum incision. The final section of the theoretical part provides an overview of available means of episiotomy prevention. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to my investigation of the public awareness of episiotomy and to my survey of the preventative methods commonly used, and whether they have any measurable effect on episiotomy prevention. I also surveyed whether the female respondents fear episiotomy and its possible complications, and how they would deal with the ongoing discomfort in the perineal area. I also evaluated the frequency of episiotomy complications. The data analysis revealed that common perineal trauma prevention techniques are not broadly used.
