Intentionality and unintentionality in Daniil Kharms's prose

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na hledání a interpretaci momentů záměrnosti a nezáměrnosti v tvorbě významného představitele ruské literární moderny Daniila Charmse. Na základě optiky záměrnosti a nezáměrnosti se potom snaží hledat takové možnosti čtení Charmsovy prózy, které by vypovídaly o jejím specifickém tvůrčím konstruktu. Věnujeme nejvíce prostoru záměrné „nezáměrnosti“ jakožto charakterstickému tvůrčímu principu v tvorbě Daniila Charmse. Interpretace těchto záměrně „nezáměrných“ prvků se vztahuje k otázce mnohoznačnosti a k otázce aktualizačního potenciálu díla. Zaměřujeme se na analýzu tvůrčích prvků, jejich sémantickou rovinu a z toho vyplývající možnosti čtení. Pozornost obracíme k určité míře, po kterou mohou být tyto prvky určitelné jako záměrné – ve vztahu k významotvornému potenciálu Charmsova díla – a které naopak mohou tuto hranici překračovat. V naší práci se soustředíme na prózu a citované příklady uvádíme z překladů Ondřeje Mrázka. Cílem je poukázat na Charmsovo dílo jako specifický umělecký počin ve smyslu jeho otevřenosti, mnohoznačnosti a mnohovrstevnatosti. Z toho důvodu se také v práci vyhýbáme snaze o kategorizaci Charmsova díla v rámci žánru či uměleckého stylu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on finding and interpreting moments of intentionality and unintentionality in the work of an important Russian literary modernist Daniil Kharms. Seeing through the lens of intentionality and unintentionality the thesis focuses on finding such possible readings of Kharms´s prose, that justify its specific artistic form. The thesis places the main accent on intended “unintentionality” as the characteristic creative principle in Kharm´s work. Interpretation of these moments of intended “unitentionality” is in relation with the multivalence and the up-to-date potential of Kharms´s prose. The thesis focuses on analyzing creative elements, their semantic potential and resulting possibilities of reading. Attention is turned also to limits, in which these creative elements can be identified as intended – in relation with semantic potential of Kharms´s work – and which can transgress these limits. In this thesis the focus is on prose and for cited textual proof the translation by Ondřej Mrázek is used. The aim is to show Kharms´s work as a specific creative achievement in sense of its ability to be open and its multitude of meanings. This is the reason why the thesis does not try to categorize Kharms´s work in terms of literary genre or literary style as well.
