Media Image of Russia's annexation of Crimea: comparative analysis of selected reports

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá mediálním obrazem ruské anexe Krymu ve dvou vybraných ruských televizních médiích. Těmi jsou Россия 1 (Rossija 1), která je představitelem státních média, a Дождь (Dožď), který reprezentuje opoziční média. Metodou sémiotické analýzy jsme zkoumali vybrané reportáže, které byly publikovány v období krymského referenda, konkrétně v den referenda, den po referendu a v den podepsání smlouvy mezi Ruskem, Krymem a Sevastopolem. Což znamená od 16. března 2014 do 18. března 2014. Vycházeli jsme především ze sociální a mediální konstrukce reality, konceptu ideologie a teorie plurality a dominance v médiích. Hlavním cílem práce je odpovědět na otázku, jak se liší mediální obraz připojení Krymu k Rusku ve státních médiích, jako je Rossia 1, a v alternativním Doždi.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the reporting of the Russian annexation of Crimea by two Russian television stations. The first station is Россия 1 (Rossiya 1), which is representative of government media. The second is Дождь (Dozhd'), which represents the opposition media. Using semiotic analysis, I examined reports that were published at the time of the Crimean referendum, primarily on the day of the referendum, the day after the referendum and on the day of signing of the treaty between Russia, Crimea and Sevastopol; i.e. from 16 March 2014 to 18 March 2014. I looked at these reports mainly through ideas of the media’s social construction of reality, concepts of ideology and theories of pluralism and dominance in the media. The main goal of this work is to answer the question of how different media images connecting the Crimea to Russia were created in the national media Rossia 1 and the alternative media Dozhd'.
