This thesis deals with monstrosity in Gothic fiction, specifically in the short story "The Outsider" (1926) by Howard Phillips Lovecraft and three other works containing similar elements on this topic, namely Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, "The Birthday of the Infanta" by Oscar Wilde and "Fragments from the Journal of a Solitary Man" by Nathaniel Hawthorn.
