Deformations of sediments in an occasional outcrop in Kounicova Street in Brno

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce řeší problematiku tektoniky kvartérních sedimentů říční terasy v Brněnské kotlině poblíž Přírodovědecké fakulty Masarykovy univerzity. Na ulici Kounicova byl proveden odkryv přibližně v S-J směru. Sled hornin představují sedimenty fluviálních štěrkopísků uložených ve formě říční terasy, které byly následně překryty sprašovým sedimentem a nejsvrchnější část odkryvu tvoří antropogenní navážka. Cílem práce je podrobně popsat, zdokumentovat a graficky znázornit tektonické struktury v sedimentech štěrkopísků. Následně je třeba interpretovat vznik těchto tektonických postižení. Byl vytvořen sken odkryvu, na kterém byly následně graficky zvýrazněny zájmové struktury pomocí programu Inkscape a zároveň byly změřeny orientace ploch větších zlomů, které byly zpracovány v programu SpheriStat3.

Abstract:

The main focus of this thesis is to perform a detailed describtion of the quarternary river terrace sediment with focus on tectonically related structures. The outcrop studied is located in the Brno basin, close to the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University on Kounicova street. The outcrop face has approximately N-S direction. The sediment sequence is represented by river gravels and sand, forming a river terrace that is overlain by loess sediment and finally, by anthropogenic soils. The main objective of this text is to describe in detail, document, and graphically represent the tectonic structures in the river terrace sediments. Subsequently, an interpretation of the origin of these structures is determined. For this, a scan of the outcrop was created, which was later edited in the Inkscape program to highlight and describe the tectonic structures. The orientation was also measured to determine the main direction of the movement of the fault. The data of these measurements were processed in the SpheriStat3 program.
