Abstract:

V polovině dvacátého století byl zahájen jeden z nejvýznamnějších integračních procesů v Evropě. Vzniká Evropské společenství uhlí a oceli, o něco později Euroatom a Evropské hospodářské společenství. Do těchto aktivit se však zapojuje pouze šest západoevropských zemí: Francie, Německo, Itálie, Belgie, Nizozemí a Lucembursko. U části západoevropských zemí se také projevují integrační snahy, avšak projekt J. Moneta a R. Schumana, který měl směřovat k federativnímu uspořádání Evropy, byl pro ně nežádoucí. Tak vzniká souběžně alternativní projekt integrace založené na mezinárodní spolupráci suverénních států v oblasti ekonomiky a obchodu - Evropské společenství volného obchodu ESVO. Během další doby se sice rozhodne větší část členů ESVO přejit k Evropským společenstvím, avšak i dnes hraje Evropské společenství volného obchodu důležitou roli nejen v Evropě. Významným krokem pak byl vznik Evropského hospodářského prostoru, založeného na spolupráci EU a ESVO. Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na historický vývoj ESVO a Evropského hospodářského prostoru a jejich roli v současnosti i budoucnosti např. v souvislosti s vystoupením Velké Británie z Evropské unie.

Abstract:

In the mid-twentieth century, one of the most important integration processes in Europe was launched. The European Coal and Steel Community emerges, somewhat later, Euroatom and the European Economic Community. However, only six Western European countries are involved in these activities: France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Part of the Western European countries also show integration efforts, but the project of J. Monet and R. Schuman, which was intended to organize Europe in a federative manner, was undesirable for them. This is how an alternative integration project based on international cooperation of sovereign states in the field of economy and trade - the European Free Trade Association of EFTA - is being developed. During the next period, it is decided that most of the EFTA members will go to the European Communities, but the European Free Trade Association is still playing an important role not only in Europe. An important step was the creation of the European Economic Area, based on EU-EFTA cooperation. This diploma thesis focuses on the historical development of the EFTA and the European Economic Area and their role in the present and the future, e.g. in connection with the performance of the UK from the European Union.
