Using Language Experience Approach in English Language Learning

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce je zvýšit povědomí učitelů anglického jazyka o metodě zvané "Language Experience Approach", která se v anglicky mluvících zemích běžně používá k výuce čtení a psaní. Tato metoda byla nedávno přizpůsobena k výuce anglického jazyka. Jelikož se tato technika používá k výuce psaní v cílovém jazyce, teoretická část této práce je zaměřena na specifika psaní v cizím jazyce a na hlavní přístupy k této problematice. Dále je zde věnována pozornost shromážděným datům o "Language Experience Approach" – variántám, hlavním výhodám a nevýhodám použití. Praktická část této práce shrnuje výsledky výzkumu, který se uskutečnil v březnu 2009 na základních školách. Průzkum byl zaměřen na názory žáků a učitelů anglického jazyka na tuto metodu.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis it to raise the awareness of English teachers about the Language Experience Approach – the method that has been used for teaching reading and writing to native speakers, but has been recently adapted for teaching English to non-native learners all over the world. Since the Language Experience Approach has been widely used as a technique for teaching writing, the theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the specifics of writing in the target language and the main approaches to teaching writing. It also contains the compiled data about the Language Experience Approach, its variations, major advantages and disadvantages. The empirical part of the thesis brings information about the survey on the Language Experience Approach conducted in March 2009 at primary schools. The research focuses on the students' and language teachers' viewpoints of the method.
