Success rate of birch sowing in forest district Bílovice, Training Forest Enterprise Masaryk Forest Křtiny

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zhodnotit úspěšnost ploškové síje a růst semenáčků břízy bělokoré. Pokus byl založen na polesí Bílovice Školního lesního podniku Křtiny. V lokalitě, kde byla experimentální plocha založena, došlo k odumření smrkového porostu vlivem poškození podkorním hmyzem. Síje byla provedena pod suchým porostem (varianta A) a na holině vzniklé nahodilou těžbou (varianta B). Následně byla v listopadu 2020 provedena podzimní plošková síje na holině (varianta C) a v březnu 2021 jarní plošková síje na holině (varianta D). Po výsevu už do pokusu nebylo zasahováno. Inventarizace probíhaly od jara 2020 do podzimu 2021. Sledován byl počet semenáčků na jednotlivých ploškách a v roce 2021 i výška semenáčků. V prvním roce experimentu se semenáčky vyskytovaly na více než 50 % plošek. Druhý rok došlo k jejich silnému odumírání a procentický podíl plošek s obnovou klesl pod 20 %. Výrazný rozdíl v úspěšnosti mezi výsevem na holině a pod porostem se neprojevil. Dle vizuálního posouzení stanoviště během inventarizací lze předpokládat, že příčinou vysoké úmrtnosti semenáčků v druhém roce po výsevu byla suchá jarní období a hojný výskyt vysoké a husté buřeně. Vliv na neúspěch obnovy může mít i narušování půdního povrchu v místě výsevu černou zvěří.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to evaluate the success rate of flat sowing and growth of silver birch seedlings. The experiment was conducted in the forest district Bílovice of the Training Forest Enterprise Masaryk Forest Křtiny. The experiment grounds were established in a location, where the original spruce forest stand died out due to damage done by the bark beetle. Flat sowing was conducted underneath dead stand (variant A) and in a clearing area created by salvage cutting (variant B). Then, in November 2020, an autumn flat sowing in a clearing area (Variant C) and in March 2021, a spring flat sowing in a clearing area (variant D) were carried out. After the initial sowing, there was no interference with the experiment. The inventorying was conducted from spring 2020 to fall 2021. The amount of the seedlings, as well as their height starting 2021, was observed. In the first year of the experiment, the seedlings were growing on over 50 % of the flats. In the second year, a notable dieback occured, with the percentige of the recovered flats falling under 20 %. No significant difference in success rate between sowing in the clearing area and underneath the dead stand was observed. It can be assumed from visual evaluation of the stand during the inventorying that the cause of the high dieback of the seedlings were dry spring periods and abundant presence of tall and dense weeds. Another factor in the unsuccesful forest regeneration may bet the damaging of the soil surface in the sowing areas by wild boars.
