Translations and translators of Polish poetry of Romantic period

Abstract:

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawić czeskich tłumaczy poezji polskiego romantyzmu i ich tłumaczenia. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Pierwsza jej część poświęcona zostanie wprowadzeniu do problematyki tłumaczenia literatury pięknej. Drugi rozdział przeznaczymy zaś szczegółowemu opisowi polskiego romantyzmu, jako kierunkowi formującemu młodszy romantyzm czeski. Sytuację w Polsce porównamy także z czeskim dziewiętnastowiecznym kontekstem społeczno-kulturowym. W ostatniej części przedstawimy najwybitniejszych czeskich tłumaczy poezji polskiego romantyzmu. Podsumowane zostaną także najczęściej tłumaczone przez nich dzieła i tematy. Koniec pracy przeznaczymy na zestawienia wybranych tłumaczeń powstałych w różnych epokach.

Abstract:

The goal of the thesis is to introduce Czech translators of the Polish Romantic poetry and their translation works. Thesis is divided into three chapters. The first one will be referred to the introduction of the topic of poetry´s translations. The second chapter will be related to the detailed description of the Polish Romantic period that affected the younger Czech Romanticism. We will also compare the situation in Poland with the Czech social-cultural context in the 19th century. In the last chapter there will be presented the most famous Czech translators of the Polish Romantic poetry. We will recap as well the most frequent works and topics that Czech translators worked on. The final part of my thesis will be dedicated to the list of the selected translations that were created across different periods.
